SAND FILTER MAINTENANCE

Sand filters collect, store and treat all stormwater runoff from a catchment area. These devices capture settleable solids, floatables, oil and grease from the runoff. They are designed in two stages with a dividing baffle wall.

Maintenance requirements: |
- Full Sand Filter Service – this will be the service required after the site inspection
Scope of work:
- Set-up, test gases and assess all risks and hazards;
- Remove all floatable debris and litter;
- Dewater sedimentation chamber and remove sludge from chamber;
- Remove all contaminated sand from filter bed using scraping and vacuum methods;
- Aerate and rejuvenate the remaining sand;
- Replace the sand removed;
- Clean the site and secure lids;
- Complete service report and send to the client.

- General Sand Filter Service – to be carried out six months after the full service
Scope of work:
- Set up and test all gases, assess risks;
- Remove all litter, floatables and vegetation from surface of filter bed;
- Scrape back crust on top of filter bed and remove;
- Aerate and rejuvenate sand. Rake level;
- Secure lid and tidy site;
- Complete service report and send to the client.
